Welcome to Food Day Oregon 2012

Food Day is a nationwide celebration and a movement for healthy, affordable, and sustainable food. Food Day Oregon helps organize and promote events and initiatives happening in our state.

In 2011, the first year of the campaign, Food Day brought together food movement leaders, organizations, physicians, nutritionists, labor leaders, environmentalists, farmers, chefs, authors, and cookbook writers, as well as parents, children, teachers, and citizens from all walks of life, united by their belief in a better food system.

On October 24, 2012—and on the days and weeks before and after—thousands of Oregonians will gather in schools, community centers, private homes, farmers markets, and City Halls across the state to celebrate Food Day.

See the Events Calendar for a wide range of activities taking place in Oregon.

Oregon’s Food Day Proclamation — Governor Kitzhaber signed a proclamation proclaiming October 24 as Food Day in Oregon. Many thanks to Nancy Becker of Oregon Public Health Institute for facilitating the process!

Food Day Discussion Guides — Portland-based Northwest Earth Institute developed discussion guides that are posted at the national Food Day website. Sections of two current NWEI discussion courses, Menu for the Future and Hungry for Change, were packaged to provide discussion guides appropriate for Food Day events. The materials will be useful for classrooms, work settings, and private parties celebrating Food Day. Thanks to Caroline White of NWEI for taking the initiative!
